Working Agreements Safe

A work agreement is a short set of guidelines created by the team for the team that determine the team`s expectations of each other. A well-written agreement should help establish and strengthen a clear and shared understanding among all team members of what they recognize as good behavior and communication. It is usually referred to as a single „work arrangement“, but in reality it consists of many individual agreements for each subject or problem. While these considerations are pretty obvious and generally manageable when remote team members are working from an office, companies need to be careful about how they can provide these accommodations when an employee is working from home. This should include support for the provision of refunds or direct billing for an adequate broadband connection where obtaining a better quality connection requires exceptional effort (e.g. B in remote geographic areas where affordable broadband is not available). A poor connection not only limits their ability to communicate and also affects the online meeting experience for the entire team, but also makes the process of accessing and downloading files much slower. In some teams, a person may work alone in a certain time zone. This means that every day there will be phases where individuals will work in complete isolation from the rest of the team (and perhaps most of the organization). Working on yourself over a longer period of time can support mental flow and reduce multiplexing, but it also affects the individual`s ability to integrate into the team and reduces opportunities for collaboration. This situation should be avoided as much as possible, or at least reduced.

These agreements have spared me a lot of grief, so I`ve given some tips below on how to create one that works for your agile team. I`ve also included three examples of clauses I`ve used for my teams that you could use. Work modalities support the expected behavior of distributed agile teams. They are defined by the team based on how they themselves should be held accountable, and they help the Scrum Master facilitate these intentional behaviors. .
